4 Key Back To School Biking Tips

With kids back to school we wanted to take a minute and go through these 4 key biking tips!

1) Inspect your bike: Check brakes, handlebars, pedals, tires, chain, seat. If you don’t feel knowledgeable enough you can always head to your nearest bike shop! For more on bike inspection head to our ABC Quick Check guide here.

2) Wear a helmet at all times: It may not be the most fashionable item but it is essential to safe bike riding. Heads injuries are a leading cause of death among cyclists and it can be prevented. Helmet fit is crucial. When a helmet is too loose it can slide back leaving their forehead exposed. Insist that your children wear a properly fit helmet and be a role model for them—wear yours too!

3) Ride smart: Know the rules of the road, make sure you let motorists and other cyclists on the road know your intentions by using hand signals, and brush up on your bike safety with our Bike Safety Quiz. We have a quiz for kids, adults and motorists too!

4) Plan your route: Go together with your kids and ride to find a low-traffic route before they head back to school. A well-planned route is a safe one!
