I-390 Trick-Trot-Roll

On Saturday October 28th, Ride Illinois participated in the Illinois Tollway’s “Trick-Trot-Roll” event celebrating the new eastern segment of Route 390. The event included a 5K run/walk and an open bike/roll — a one-time opportunity to bike on the new tollway before it opened to cars!
Over 700 cyclists and 700 runners came out to the event, and it was a great opportunity to promote bicycle safety to both children and adults. We distributed hundreds of free blinky taillights to event participants, and reminded cyclists to use both front and rear bicycle lights when riding in the dark, particularly important at this time of year. We also shared information about our recently passed legislation that legalizes the use of a red taillight instead of a reflector, among other amendments to Illinois bicycle laws. And we encouraged both cyclists and drivers to use our Bike Safety Quiz to learn how to share the road safely.
