Inaugural Mayor’s Bicycle Safety Challenge a Success

More than 25 communities participated in last month’s inaugural Mayor’s Bicycle Safety Challenge! Participating communities were from throughout the state — from McHenry and Rock Island to Galesburg and Jacksonville to Chester and Johnston City!

Communities participating in the challenge had their village boards or city councils approve a Bike Safety Week proclamation and urge local bicyclists and motorists to take our BikeSafetyQuiz.com. Some mayors, including Elmhurst’s Steven Morley and Canton’s Jeff Fritz, completed the quiz themselves.

Ride Illinois created the challenge as a simple program to help improve safety on communities’ roads by educating residents on how to properly share the road – with mayors publicly leading by example. The challenge also assisted with us establishing contacts with the communities.

Below is the list of the 26 communities that we know participated in the challenge. Did your community participate and you do not see the name on our list? If so, please email us and let us know!
