Secretary of State Candidate Survey

Early voting is underway in Illinois’ primary elections and Election Day is fast approaching! Ride Illinois, the Active Transportation Alliance, and Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) jointly created a questionnaire that was sent to all candidates.

The secretary oversees Illinois’ Rules of the Road, driver education services and exam, and various traffic safety initiatives.

Six candidates — four Democrats and two Republicans — are vying for the opportunity to replace outgoing Secretary of State Jesse White, who is retiring after 23 years in office.

Read the candidates’ responses to our survey on this news post from the Active Transportation Alliance. Below is the status of survey responses as of June 6, 2022:

Democratic Candidates

  • Alexi Giannoulias: responded to survey
  • David Moore: responded to survey
  • Sidney Moore: did not respond to survey yet
  • Anna Valencia: responded to survey

Republican Candidates

  • Dan Brady: responded to survey
  • John Milhiser: did not respond to survey yet

We used publicly available contact information and multiple rounds of outreach to attempt to reach the campaigns of all candidates that will appear on the ballot. Candidates that have yet to respond can still contact us with their responses to our candidate questionnaire, and we’ll update the information that is shared so Illinois residents can make an informed decision when voting in the primary election.

Note: as non-partisan 501(c)3 not-for-profit organizations, the organizations that created the survey do not endorse candidates or evaluate their positions. The goal of this survey was to contact all candidates and give them the opportunity to answer questions about topics relevant to our members and supporters.
